Unlike a traditional film course that starts with cameras and lighting, this course starts with prompts and AI platforms. You will work with tools that generate video, images, and text from descriptions. The syllabus covers key concepts and principles of AI filmmaking, how to write synopses and artist statements for AI art, narrative theory as it applies to generated content, and a poetics of AI art. You will also look at example videos and AI prompt sets to see what is possible.

By the end you will be able to plan your own AI filmmaking project from start to finish. You will have a finished piece of AI-generated video content and the skills to update it as new tools appear. The course is designed for beginners — no prior filmmaking or coding experience is assumed.

This course does not teach traditional cinematography, editing with physical software, or scriptwriting from scratch.
