What a pharmacist actually does
A typical day includes receiving prescriptions, verifying dosages, preparing medicines, labelling stock and answering patient questions. They report to a pharmacy manager or senior doctor in hospitals. Inventory management and maintaining compliance with drug laws are constant tasks.
How to become one — the qualification route
Qualification route in India
- Complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Enrol in a D.Pharm (two years) or B.Pharm (four years) programme at a UGC-DEB or AICTE-approved institute.
- Complete the required internship hours.
- Register with the State Pharmacy Council and pass the Pharmacy Exam conducted by the Pharmacy Council of India.
