Career as a Digital Marketer

Buys, earns and optimises attention — and is measured on what it returns.

Also called: performance marketer, growth marketer

Digital marketers buy, earn and optimise attention. They are measured on what it returns. In India, the role sits across startups, agencies and in-house teams. Entry-level roles often ask for a certificate and basic skills in SEO, paid ads or content. The work blends creative writing with data analysis, and many begin with a free course before moving to a paid programme.

What a digital marketer actually does

A typical day includes keyword research, writing ad copy, checking campaign dashboards and adjusting bids. They use Google Ads, Meta Business Suite and analytics tools to measure traffic and conversions. Most report to a marketing manager or a brand head. Junior roles focus on execution; senior roles shape strategy and allocate budget.

Online courses add practical skills on top of a degree. They cannot replace a licensed qualification if one is required for the role. Human review is mandatory for regulatory claims.
